Some 15 years ago Tynans View engaged Jim Irvine and his company to advise us on how to make the best out of our Cabernet Sauvignon grapes from our Padthaway vineyard.

For this of you who don't know of Jim Irvine, he has been a leading wine maker from the Barossa Valley building his reputation as a pioneer of creating world best merlot wines.  He willingly describes himself as a contrarian in many aspects of his long journey and not least in the wine making sphere.  When the rest of Australia was only thinking of Shiraz or Cabernet Sauvignon, Jim was taking Australian Merlot to world class heights.  If you have been lucky enough to enjoy a bottle of his Irvine Grand Merlot then you are privileged.  This wine won the world best merit - yes it beat Chateau Petrus on a number of occasions.

Now at nearly 90 years of age, Jim has retired from the day to day of the wine business but as one of his exit offerings and to prove he remains a contrarian, Jim produced a sensational Marjico Cabernet Franc.

Marjico wines is the child of Marjorie and James Irvine.  Marjico ( Marjorie - Mar and Jim - Ji and Company - Co) have created this rare exciting and super premium red wine made principally from Cabernet France.

Cabernet Franc is one of the most important red grapes of Europe but is seldom held so in Australia, being rarely found, with just eighty or so out of 2,500 wineries in Australia making it as a varietal red wine and just 5,500 tonnes crushed pr vintage.

Jim Irvine is a friend of Tynans View and our international distributor AMAZ Wines and we are privileged to be able to offer the only stock of Marjico Cabernet Franc 2016 & 2017 vintages available in Australia.

I'm personally stocking up my personal cellar with this wine to enjoy in the coming years.
